Michelangelo Contini

Michelangelo Contini is an Italian musician, composer, performer and visual artist based in Berlin

since 2002. He studied Music and Art (D.A.M.S.) at the University of Bologna where he started to develop his work as a painter and musician.


Since 4 years he collaborates with the choreographer

Lina Gómezas a musician and performer. Their recent work

Restraint is one of the 20th selected works of the european

platform Aerowaves Twenty 2019. Restraint was premiered

in the Tanztage Berlin 2018 at the Sophiensaelle Berlin and

presented in different festivals, such as Malá Inventura 2019

Prague, Tanznacht Berlin 2018 and Performing Arts Festival

Berlin 2018. He compose the music and performed in the piece

A Passo di Mulo where he also create its scenography. This

work was supported by the Einzelprojektförderung of the Berlin

Senate and presented in the frame of the Open Spaces

Festival 2018 in co-production with the Tanzfabrik Berlin.

In 2017 with the support of the Einstiegsprojektförderung

he compose the music and designed the scenography for the

research Chao Vazado. In 2016 Michelangelo composed

and performed the music for the piece STAUB (Poeira Surda)

and in 2015 for the piece Träumerai des Verschwindens, both

works in the frame of the Master in Choreography of the HZT-Berlin.


In 2018 he performed for the choreographer Julek Kreutzer in the piece Ente Ubersetzung at Wiesenburg Berlin, supported by the Einstiegsprojektförderung.


More over Contini is the founder and lead voice of the Berlin based band The Salt Welcome, a project in collaboration with the guitarist Gearóid Ua Laohgaire, the cellist Eurico Ferreira Matthias and the drummer Big Daddy Mugglestone. They have been presenting their concert at different music venues in Berlin and recently await to release their first Album Dance The Night Away produced by Michael Tiebes.


He performed in the piece Long Exposure: A Journey Through Time directed by Nancy Banfi and presented in Ausland Berlin 2012


From 2008-2010 he played trumpet with the Spiegelklettern, an experimental jazz band with Marcello Busato, Pablo Juanes and Seby Ciurcina.


In November 2007 he founded together with the danish painter Trine Bork Kristensen the project space II II // I in Berlin Wedding, an open plan attic that offers a diverse platform for visual art practice.


In 2007 Michelangelo choreographed the piece “Gegen die Identität” in collaboration with Nancy Banfi, Olga Tzikouli and the musicians Marcello Busato e Margareth Kammerer.


In 2004 he developed a short 7 minutes pieces for the first edition of Lucky Trimmer Berlin together with the dancers Nancy Banfi e Olga Tzikouli.


As a painter Contini showed his work in different solo and group exhibitions.
